Dear Neighbors and Community Members,
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and why I am running for School Committee.
I am a mother of two children who attend the Public Schools of Brookline. My daughter attends third grade at the Lawrence School and my son is in fifth grade at the Lincoln School. They have both been in the Public Schools of Brookline since kindergarten. We moved to Brookline when my son was about to start kindergarten. We choose this community for its fantastic combination of great schools and vibrant community, diversity and access to enriching opportunities. We have been an active part of the Lawrence community. I started and have been the troop leader for my daughter’s Brownie Girl Scout troop for the last three years.
I have a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University at Albany (SUNY Albany). I have a post-bacc certificate in Elementary Education from Bridgewater State University and a M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Houston. I have been teaching elementary education for 15 years. I have taught all levels of elementary education and have experience in both suburban and urban districts. I taught first and second grades in the Houston Independent School District for nine years. I have been teaching fourth grade for six years in the Newton Public Schools. I have held leadership positions in all of the schools I have worked in and have helped write curriculum for both HISD and NPS. I truly enjoy teaching and feel passionate about public education.
These experiences give me a unique perspective that prepares me for the challenge of serving on the School Committee. I am a parent of two children in the Public Schools of Brookline who have long academic careers ahead of them. I am motivated to become a member of the School Committee because I am concerned about the present and future direction of our children’s educational experiences – academically, socially and emotionally. I am an experienced educator who is committed to public education, equity, high expectations for all students, and developing well rounded citizens.
I am running for the Brookline School Committee because I want to play an active role in the direction of the Public Schools of Brookline. I would be honored to represent the voices of our community on the School Committee. Please come out and vote on May 8th! Our community needs your voice and your vote!
